English for today - ‘due to’ and ‘owing to’

These lexical items are frequently misused. The former means caused by and should always be associated with noun equivalents, e.g., the late arrival of the goods was due to a strike at the docks.; the latter means because of and should always be associated with a verb, e.g., The goods arrived late owing to strike at the docks.
