English for Today COLLOCATIONS: more examples

4. Although-yet(not but): Although he was invited yet he was not welcome.

5. Prone-to(this is used for something negative): He is prone to infection.


6. Quote-off hand(not off head) and quote off hand means to recite: Although the poem was long yet Yinka quoted the lines off hand.


7. Learn- by heart. This means to memorize: It was a long poem but he learnt it by heart.


8. Looking forward-to. This should be followed by an -ing verb or a noun but never a verb:
I am looking forward to seeing your family(right)
I am looking forward to a day of absolute freedom(right)
I am looking forward to see your family(wrong)
